The first Black Sea Partner ship Forum for Tour and Travel operators.

Thessaloniki, Greece 18-21 November, 2010

Forum on the Cooperation of Tour and Travel Agencies of the member states of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation was held in Thessaloniki on the 19th of November.
Participants from Georgia were Georgian Tourism Association (GTA) and its members: Across Georgia, ITA Georgia, Promethea Voyages
The objective of the forum was to support the regional economic integration process in the Black Sea region through private sector driven initiative

Ecological Awards Project ”Enhancing Sustainability of Tourism Development in Protected Areas of Georgia “.

15 of November 2010, held Georgian Tourism Association (GTA) presentation of project -”Enhancing Sustainability of Tourism Development in Protected Areas of Georgia “.

The program was supported by BP on behalf of its Oil and Gas co-partners BTC Co, SCP Co, HSBC Bank and Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF). The project was carried out in cooperation with the Agency of Protected areas (APA).

Georgian Tourism Association has accomplished mentioned project, realized some activities:

1. Installation Solar power Systems

Solar power Systems (electricity and water heating systems) was installing in seven guesthouses within the Tusheti Protected Ares, in a wonderful gorge –Gometsari (village Dochu and village Verkhovani).

2. Two Workshops in Borjomi-Kharagauli NP and in Tusheti NP

Two training sessions with an international experts and GTA representatives was held for owners of the guesthouses.

3. Explanatory Boards in Algeti NP and in Tusheti NP

4. Two Junior Ranger Camps

Two five-day junior Ranger Camps in Algeti NP and in Borjomi-Kharagauli NP

5. Printing materials

Photo documentation and Project overview, brochures for Guesthouses


On the presentation were invited government, private sector and donor organizations.

Bread Festival in Samtskhe-Javakheti

The bread festival in Akhaltsikhe was organized by Biological Farming Association ELKANA on October 16, 2010. Georgian Tourism Association (GTA) was invited as partner organization of ELKANA and has participated in this Event. The event was organized within the framework of the Tourism and Rural Development Project and the Eco-award program, and aimed at the introduction to wide public the agro-tourism infrastructure of Samtskhe-Javakheti region and popularization of the traditional products, the local wheat varieties among them. The tourist offers and network of guesthouses and farmhouses located in the region was presented at the festival. Local wheat and bread varieties were displayed on a special stand. Successful farmers cultivating Akhaltsikhe (Meskhetian) Tsiteli Doli wheat was awarded.

The Memorandum between GTA and GeoStat

On the 15th of September, 2010, Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Georgian Tourism Association (GTA) and National Statistics Services of Georgia (GeoStat). Owing to this cooperation, GeoStat will provide qualified and objective statistical information to the private companies. On the other hand, GeoStat will receive qualified information from the travel companies, which in general supports the improvmenet of quality of statistical information."

Junior Ranger Program

Two five-day Junior Ranger Camps (one in Algeti PA 14-18.07.2010 and other in Borjomi-Kharagauli PA 10-14.08.2010) were organized by Georgian Tourism Association. The camps offered opportunities for children to learn more about PAs and opportunities to participate appropriately in the work of a PA ranger. 50 Participants in the Junior Ranger program was recruited through existing contacts with area schools in Manglisi and Borjomi. For the future the children will have practical opportunities for volunteer-type work within the Protected Area and will be introduced to traditional activities in the region. Regular follow – up visits will be organized, so that the junior Rangers become a part of the life of the Protected Area.

The guesthouses with solar power systems

GTA finished installing of solar powered electricity and water heating systems in seven guesthouses within the Tusheti Protected Area. The guesthouses were selected in consultation with the Agency of Protected Areas, board of the Tusheti PA and local stakeholders. Provision of electricity and hot water in Tusheti will mark an improvement in quality of visitors experience in the region, as well as assisting people to live there year-round. The guesthouses with solar power systems are situated in a wonderful gorge – Gometsari.

Two training sessions in Borjomi/Kharagauli and Tusheti NPs

On the 21-22 of July and 26-27 July, 2010, two training sessions with an international expert and GTA representatives was held at Borjomi/Kharagauli and Tusheti National Parks. The trainings were dedicated to the improvement of the quality of tourism service and capacity building and involved owners of the guesthouses from Borjomi/Kharagauli and Tusheti regions. The combination of global best practices and local knowledge will help to bring the guesthouses in Georgian PAs up to European standards. The events was organised by GTA in cooperation with Eurasia Partnership Foundation."

Mtirala National Park (Seminar and Presentation)

On the 15-16 of June, 2010, a seminar was held at Mtirala National park (Adjara Region, Georgia). The seminar was dedicated to the improvement of the quality of tourism service and capacity building and involved owners of the guesthouses from Adjara and Tusheti regions. GTA representatives were invited as speakers at the seminar. The event was organised by ASDA in cooperation with Eurasia Partnership Foundation."
