Cycle Race: Gudauri – Tbilisi

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

On the 2nd of May, 2010, Cycle Race will be held for celebration of Finish of Skiing Season in Gudauri and Start of Summer Season. The race is organized by Georgian Tourism Association and Association Velo-League and covers 110 km-long distance Tbilisi - Gudauri. The race starts in Gudauri at Hotel “Gudauri” and ends in Tbilisi at the Freedom Square. General sponsor of the event is the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Georgia, partners are: Sport Shop “Magelani” and Hotel “Gudauri”.

This is a group-, sport-recreational event, which is dedicated to the introduction of healthy lifestyle and popularization of the region. Furthermore, this event will contribute to development and popularization of biking tourism among the local population. The race will be led by the President of Association Velo-League and the well-known Georgian cycler Jumber Lezhava.

The race is scheduled to take place on the 2nd of May, participants will be approximately 50 persons. The race will be monitored by the staff of Georgian Tourism Association and technical staff of Sport Shop “Magelani”, two cars of Police and a one car of Emergency.

Participation in the cycle race is open to anyone older than 17. Participants should have their own bikes that are technically-tested.

Programme of the Cycle Race:

6:30 Meeting in Tbilisi at the Sports Palace

7:00 Departure to Gudauri by three minibuses. Bikes will be transported by a lorry driver.

9:00 Arrival to Gudauri

9:00 – 10:00 Preparation of the bikes for the race

10:00 Greeting speech

10:30 Start of the race

13:00 Short break in Pasanauri

13:10 Departure from Pasanauri

15:00 Long break at the square by Ananuri Church

15:00 – 15:30 Lunch

15:30 Departure from Ananuri

17:30 Break at the road

17:40 Continue race

19:00 Finish at the Freedom Square *

* The participants will enter Tbilisi from Dighmis Masivi, bike through Marshal Gelovani Avenue, continue down the right bank down the Mtkvari River and bike up to the Freedom Square via Baratashvili Street.

** Short Shop “Magelani” will provide all the necessary spare parts and technical staff for the race.
